Solution: Fumed silica acts as a thermal stabilizer by reducing fluid mobility and protecting polymers from thermal breakdown.
Case Example: In a Kuwaiti thermal well (150°C), a xanthan-based completion fluid with 1% fumed silica retained 80% of its initial viscosity after 48 hours, whereas the control sample lost >50% viscosity.
